Police has recovered the dead body of a nine-year-old madrasa student in Pallabi area of Mirpur in Dhaka on Monday.
Pallabi police station OC Dadan Fakir confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, adding that the body was found in the room of one of the teachers on the third floor of the madrasa.
One person has been detained regarding the incident.
The victim, Hafizur Rahman Kawsar, was from Fraidganj upazila in Chandpur. He had enrolled in Marakajul Tarlilin Qawmi Madrasa in Pallabi merely 15 days ago.
Police said the madrasa authority claimed the child had committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling with a towel as he had been suffering from depression.
However, during primary examination, police did not find any evidence that suggests that the boy committed suicide; instead they found that the boy had a head injury and a bite mark on one of his hands.
Police detained Maulana Junaid, one of the teachers in the madrasa, for interrogation and are now investigating the matter, the sources added.
When contacted, the child’s cousin Eva said she had been informed by the madrasa authority that her cousin had committed suicide by hanging himself.
